  1. I worked in the Meals on Wheels booth and have attended almost all of our health fairs. This was the best in several ways…many vendors, orderly set up, good signage, efficiently run with many student helpers, attractive, etc.
BUT, I see a need for improvement in several areas:1. Very few minorities attended. Need promotion of the event in minority churches, Carver Center, subsidized housing, signs on the trollies. 2. Promote smoking cessation, tobacco free cigarettes, hypnosis, patches, etc.
3.focus on healthy eating and good choices with a healthy eating section. Serve healthy foods like yogurts, fruits, granola bars, raisens, nuts, seeds, green tea, salads, grilled chicken etc. instead of biscuits and gravy, muffins, meatloaf and mashed potatoes, BBQ pulled pork. Especially since the food booth was right next to the cholesterol, triglycerides and glucose testing! That is a no brainier.
Thank you for what you do and for listening.

  2. Dianne,

Thanks for your comments and feedback on the event! I will pass your ideas along to the Howard County Health Fair organizer.
