This summer is the perfect time to discover all the new and fun, family-friendly activities Kokomo has to offer!

Kokomo’s 2015 Summer Concert Series kicked off last weekend at the Kokomo Arts Pavilion in Downtown’s Foster Park. Enjoy fun festivals and fantastic live music with great performers and bands all summer long!  All concerts are free and family-friendly. Summer headliners include:

June 27 –  The Rat Pack is Back! live from Las Vegas with the Kokomo Symphony Orchestra
July 2-4 – Haynes-Apperson Festival with parade, food, car shows, fireworks, and concerts featuring Pink Droyd with Laser Light Spectacular (July 2), Bret Michaels (July 3), and Here Come the Mummies (July 4)

Kokomo Jackrabbits game

The Kokomo Jackrabbits (named after the Apperson Jack Rabbit, an early automobile manufactured in Kokomo in 1907) play their inaugural season of baseball this summer at the city’s new Kokomo Municipal Stadium. Post-game fireworks, themed game nights, pre-game festivities, Kid Zone for youngsters, and strong community partnerships create a fun game-day experience.  And best of all, the Jackrabbits’ home turf is within walking distance to Kokomo’s revitalized downtown, full of unique dining, shopping, and entertainment options, and adjacent to beautiful walking and biking trails along the Wildcat Creek!  For ticket information, visit www.KokomoJackrabbits.com.

Other must-see events this summer include Kokomo Wings and Wheels Air & Car Show on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Kokomo Municipal Airport, thrilling racing action at Kokomo Speedway, Kokomo Automotive Museum’s new exhibit “The Life and Times of the Ford Thunderbird” on display through October 9, 2015, and First Fridays, held year-round in Downtown Kokomo.

Enjoy Local Cuisine at the 2012 Taste of Kokomo

You won’t want to miss the 2012 Taste of Kokomo, which will be held in Downtown Kokomo from 5:00-10:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 18th.  From fantastic music, great food, live food challenges (events are listed below), kid’s activities, wine tasting and beer garden, this year’s event is setting up to be the best yet!  Below is information provided by the organizer, United Way of Howard County.  To find out more details about the festival, call (765) 457-6691 or visit their website.

The 16th annual Taste of Kokomo, voted Kokomo’s best event ten years in a row, will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012 from 5pm to 10:30pm around the courthouse square. All proceeds will benefit the United Way of Howard County.

The Taste of Kokomo offers a “taste” from local restaurants, caterers, coffee shops and pubs. From the basic to the obscure, there is something for everyone. Last year’s event found Jamaican jerk chicken, beef satay, chicken & dumplings, corn on the cob, brats and ribs lined up around the square. The dessert menu was stacked high with Texas sheet cake, sugar cream tarts and chocolate mousse. This year’s list of restaurants and menu choices is filling up quickly.

Local bands from all genres will be playing on two stages. Entry tickets sold the day of the event are $3 (children 5 and under free). Presale entry tickets will be available for $3 and includes 2 free food tickets. All food and drink items are sold for tickets not cash. One food/drink ticket is worth $1. All items cost between 1-5 ticket(s). Wine and beer will be served in the beer garden.

Beautiful Day for the 2012 Strawberry Festival

The 2012 Strawberry Festival is today (June 7th) in Downtown Kokomo!  Starting at 11am this morning, strawberry shortcakes will be served until 3pm (or while quantities last.)  Don’t miss the fun – shortcakes, kid’s activities, vendors, music & much more!  If you can’t make it Downtown today, the Strawberry Festival is held annually on the 1st Thursday in June, and is a great family-friendly event for all ages!

KOKOMO, IN – Advance tickets for the Greater Kokomo Downtown Association’s Annual Strawberry Festival on Thursday, June 7 are now available. The festival features strawberries, shortcake, ice cream, whipped cream, music, and a few new additions this year.

A generous portion of strawberry shortcake is only $5. Advance tickets can be purchased at Palmer’s Jewelry, 101 E. Sycamore St., Chamber of Commerce, 325 N Main St., Community First Bank, 201 W Sycamore St., and all its branches, Planet Mind, 108 N Main St., PNC Bank, 200 W Mulberry St, Angie Meyers Design Studio, 104 W Walnut St, Upper Crust, 106 N Main St, Lux Boutique, 102 E Walnut St, The Vault, 223 N Main St and Key Bank, 224 N Main S., and all its branches.

The Strawberry Festival will be held on Main Street on the Courthouse Square from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., or while quantities last. Featured at the festival will be shortcakes baked by women from the Millerview Amish School in eastern Howard County, strawberries through Moore’s Pie Shop, ice cream from Glover’s, and whipped cream donated by Meijer of Kokomo. Also featured will be music by Kokomo Symphony Youth Orchestra.

McDonalds® of Central Indiana will be providing samples of their Frozen Strawberry Lemonade. Also kids will enjoy a fun show by Ronald McDonald® starting at noon. Free activities and crafts will be offered during the festival at Planet Mind, 108 N. Main St. Also, Angie Meyers Design Studio, 104 W. Walnut St will be doing something special as well.
