Tis the Season . . . for the 2011 We Care Trim-A-Tree Festival

2011 We Care Trim-A-Tree Festival

The We Care Trim-A-Tree Festival is going on now at the Kokomo Mall (located at the corner of U.S. 31 and Boulevard Street.)  Don’t miss the chance to see the beautiful trees on display and vote for your favorite (by putting change in the buckets!)  The Christmas trees and wreaths will be on display now through November 13, 2011.  The public can view the trees Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Friday & Saturday 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., and Sunday 12-6 p.m.  Admission is free.

Great for the entire family, this annual event is a favorite among those that live in Kokomo.  If you plan to visit the Kokomo area, the tree display is a must-see!  The auction will be held on November 13, 2011 starting at 4:45 p.m at the Kokomo Mall.  Bid on your favorite tree and you may get to take it home for the holidays!  Proceeds from the auction will benefit We Care.  For more information, about We Care, click here.

I always enjoy going to see the trees and the fun decorating themes each year!  I have posted a few of my favorites from this year’s display below.  Tis the season … to start making holiday memories!

A cozy Christmas setting!

Visit the 2011 Chocolate Celebration For a Sweet Time!

One of my all-time favorite annual events in Kokomo is just around the corner, and my sweet tooth is ready!  J. Edwards Fine Chocolates will present the 9th Annual Chocolate Celebration on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the Kokomo Mall.  Local restaurants, caterers, bakeries, and chocolate connoisseurs will offer their special (and delicious!) chocolate creations from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  My advice is come early for best selection!

Chocolate lovers will be in paradise with the large variety of sweet desserts available, including brownies, cheesecake, flavored coffee, cookies, hot chocolate, cake, crème brulee, cupcakes, pastries, truffles, chocolate-dipped fruit, fudge, and many other tempting chocolate treats.  I am, of course, a HUGE chocolate fan and look forward to what will be offered at the event each year.  There is definitely something for everyone, including Valentine’s Day gift items you can purchase for your sweetheart or family members if you don’t enjoy chocolate yourself.  Visit their website for a list of items that will be offered this year.

This is one day of the year that I completely enjoy devouring chocolate desserts for lunch.  However, if you wish to eat first, several vendors will offer lunch items, and Grace United Methodist Church will sell soup and sloppy joe sandwiches in the Kokomo Mall.

Admission to the Chocolate Celebration is free.  Tickets are 2 for $5 and can be redeemed for one chocolate treat of your choice.  Tickets are available at the event or in advance at J. Edwards Fine Chocolates and Samaritan Caregivers.  Plan now to satisfy your sweet tooth at this great annual event!  For more information or to see more photos from last year’s event, visit their website.

Chocolate lovers will gather for the 8th Annual Chocolate Celebration at the Kokomo Mall from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2010.  My calendar is already marked for this incredibly sweet event!  I have attended six out of the last seven years and have never been disappointed.  The choice and quality of chocolate items is simply fantastic.  You are sure to have a great time!

Local organizations, restaurants, caterers, and bakeries will bring their very best chocolate creations.  Tickets are 2 for $5 and can each be redeemed for a dessert of your choice.  Believe me, it is not an easy decision!  Over the past several years I have tried chocolate-covered strawberries, chocolate layer cake, frozen hot chocolate, brownies, and fudge (just to name a few.)  Make sure to arrive early for best selection.

Yum! The Olde Oak Door's booth serves up their special chocolate creations during the 2009 event.

Each booth is beautifully decorated and many offer free samples as well.  It is worth a visit even if you don’t personally enjoy chocolate as many booths have a selection of gourmet candy and gifts you can purchase to give someone special on Valentine’s Day.  Soup and sloppy joe sandwiches will also be available if you want to have lunch before enjoying dessert.

All proceeds will benefit the Samaritan Caregivers.  Visit their website for more information and a list of chocolate items that will be offered this year.  Don’t miss Kokomo’s sweetest event!
