Local Farms Offer Fall Family Fun

Local family-owned farms in the Kokomo area provide a great country escape for families that need a break from a busy routine.  You can pick your own pumpkin, take an adventure through a corn maze, shop for crafts in a country store, and ride on a hay wagon!  There is definitely something for all ages at these great fall attractions!  Both farms are open October 1-30, 2010.

Old Sycamore Farm

Old Sycamore Farm – 6702 West 00 North South, Kokomo
Hours: Monday – Friday 12:00-6:30pm, Saturday 10:00am-6:30pm & Sunday 12:00-6:30pm

Farm activities include: U-pick pumpkin patch, petting zoo, pony rides, candle dipping, gold & gem stone panning, animal farm factory (stuff your own farm animal or teddy bear), wagon train, moon walk & slide, country store with primitive crafts, hay bale maze, duck races, hayrides, and playground.  Prices vary based on individual activities and are listed on their website.  Old Sycamore Haunted Barn is also open on Friday & Saturday nights only (more information will be posted soon!)

Barnyard Barrel Train at Guffey Acres

Guffey Acres Farm – 1603 North 400 West, Kokomo
Hours: Thursday 4-8pm, Friday 4-10pm & Saturday 10am-10pm
Admission: $8 per person (includes corn maze & all attractions)
Children 2 & under free

Farm activities include: 2 corn mazes (one more challenging than the other), barnyard barrel train, farm golf, tire mountain, hayrides, jumbo horse shoes, giant checkers, straw jump, tube slide, and U-pick pumpkins.  Families can enjoy concessions, visit with barnyard buddies (where kids can feed and pet the animals), and shop at Guffey’s Gifts gift shop in the Big Red Barn on the farm.  For more information, visit their website.

Local Farms Offer Holiday Fun

Two local farms in the Kokomo area invite you to visit for some “fun on the farm” this holiday season.  Kids will enjoy visits with Santa (and his reindeer!), making Christmas crafts & more.  If you are looking for something a little different to do this year or need a break from Christmas shopping, bring your family to Kokomo and enjoy some holiday fun on the farm!

Old Sycamore Farm presents “Santa’s Workshop”
Location: 6702 West 00 North South, Kokomo
Open: December 5-6, 12-13, 19-20
Hours: Noon – 6:30 p.m.
Admission: Prices vary for each activity

Kids will enjoy photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, candle dipping, and making homemade holiday crafts, such as ornaments, stockings, Santa hats, and stuffing their own teddy bear or farm animal.  Kids can also write and mail their letters to Santa.  A selection of Christmas crafts, gifts, and decorations will be available to purchase as well as Christmas cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, apple cider, hot cocoa, fudge, and egg nog.  For more information, call 765-461-6088 or visit their website.

Easy Acre Farm presents “A Country Christmas”
Location: 3347 East 50 North, Kokomo (2 miles East of Kokomo)
Open: December 19-20
Hours: Noon – 6:00 p.m.
Admission: Free will offering only

Take a step back in time and enjoy an authentic country Christmas.  Santa in his Christmas sleigh will visit Easy Acre Farm along with Cupid, his Reindeer.  Kids will enjoy visits with Santa and a real reindeer, and many photo opportunities are available (personal cameras are welcome!)  Children are also encouraged to bring a letter to Santa and put it in Santa’s special mailbox to the North Pole.  For more information, call 765-419-1973.

Fall is soon approaching.  Kids are now back in school, busy with school projects, club meetings, and athletics.  For many, Summer vacation is over, but that doesn’t have to mean the end of travel.  Consider this Fall as a perfect time to take a weekend getaway, especially to Kokomo. 

The leaves will soon change into vibrant orange, yellow, and red colors.  The air will become cooler, and vendors will begin to sell pumpkins and apples.  Kokomo has several Fall events that make perfect weekend getaway trip ideas.

Kokomo Oktoberfest – 
September 25 (4-10 p.m.)
Visitors will enjoy German food, vendors, kid’s activities, fantastic live music by the Jay Fox and Bavarian Showtime Band, beer garden, and polka dancing.  In addition, there will be a large Volkswagen Cruise-in and VW vendors.  Admission is free.  Don’t miss this great family event in Downtown Kokomo!
