Don’t Miss All the New Activities at the 2011 Taste of Kokomo

Get your taste buds ready for the Taste of Kokomo!  New features have been added to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever.  Held on the Courthouse Square in Downtown Kokomo, the event will run from 4-10 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2011.  Admission is $3.

The Taste of Kokomo will offer a large selection of a variety of foods from over 30 local restaurants, drinks from Mid America Beverage, and great live music with eight bands playing throughout the night on two different stages.

The Kid’s Corner will feature kid’s games, inflatables, sand art, crafts, and special appearances by a few superheroes.  In addition, a new Big Top event center will be set up on the corner of Main and Sycamore Streets.  Learn to make your own beer or watch as professionals and amateurs compete for the glory in cooking competitions and mixology.  Here is the schedule of special events and competitions:

10:00 a.m. Backyard Grillmaster Challenge
This event will kick-off the Taste of Kokomo with a barbeque cook-off in Downtown Kokomo.  Cooking teams will fire up the grills at 10 a.m.  People’s Choice voting will be open to the public from 12-3 p.m.  The best in burgers, ribs, and chicken will be announced at 4 p.m.

4:00 p.m. Chopped Cooking Competition
This is an amateur cooking contest, and entries will be given a “bag” with several cooking ingredients that must be combined to make the best entree. Judges will determine the winner.

5:30 p.m. Homebrew 101 with Half Moon
Half Moon Restaurant & Brewery will bring their brewmaster to the Taste of Kokomo to teach the fine art of making a great beer at home.  Samples will be sold.

7:00 p.m. Throw Down Competition
Two teams of local cooks led by two local professional chefs, JoAnn Rozzi and Angie Martino, will compete in the best of Italy.  “Viva Italia” will have four judges and samples of the great fare will be sold.

9:00 p.m. Mixology Competition
Come down and support your favorite bartender as they compete in speed, accuracy and finesse.  Watch as bartenders make a layered drink called the Kokomo Wildcat Cocktail, made popular by Da Roux House.

Both Hoops on the Square and Cook McDoogal’s Irish Pub will each host an afterparty starting at 10 p.m.  Both bars will offer great late night specials and music.
