Hit a Home Run with Family Fun this Summer in Kokomo!

This summer is the perfect time to discover all the new and fun, family-friendly activities Kokomo has to offer!

Kokomo’s 2015 Summer Concert Series kicked off last weekend at the Kokomo Arts Pavilion in Downtown’s Foster Park. Enjoy fun festivals and fantastic live music with great performers and bands all summer long!  All concerts are free and family-friendly. Summer headliners include:

June 27 –  The Rat Pack is Back! live from Las Vegas with the Kokomo Symphony Orchestra
July 2-4 – Haynes-Apperson Festival with parade, food, car shows, fireworks, and concerts featuring Pink Droyd with Laser Light Spectacular (July 2), Bret Michaels (July 3), and Here Come the Mummies (July 4)
July 25 – The Mark Farner Band
August 1 – Rhumfest featuring David Cook
August 8 – Weberfest featuring MiniKiss
August 15 – Taste of Kokomo featuring Danny Seraphine, Bill Champlin & CTA
September 25 – Octoberfest featuring The Lovin’ Spoonful on their 50th Anniversary Tour

Kokomo Jackrabbits game

The Kokomo Jackrabbits (named after the Apperson Jack Rabbit, an early automobile manufactured in Kokomo in 1907) play their inaugural season of baseball this summer at the city’s new Kokomo Municipal Stadium. Post-game fireworks, themed game nights, pre-game festivities, Kid Zone for youngsters, and strong community partnerships create a fun game-day experience.  And best of all, the Jackrabbits’ home turf is within walking distance to Kokomo’s revitalized downtown, full of unique dining, shopping, and entertainment options, and adjacent to beautiful walking and biking trails along the Wildcat Creek!  For ticket information, visit www.KokomoJackrabbits.com.

Other must-see events this summer include Kokomo Wings and Wheels Air & Car Show on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Kokomo Municipal Airport, thrilling racing action at Kokomo Speedway, Kokomo Automotive Museum’s new exhibit “The Life and Times of the Ford Thunderbird” on display through October 9, 2015, and First Fridays, held year-round in Downtown Kokomo.

Love history?  Check out the Elwood Haynes Museum, Seiberling Mansion, and Kokomo Opalescent Glass (with glass factory tours offered at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday.)

Kokomo Beach is officially open for the 2013 season!  Cool off at one of Kokomo’s most popular summer attractions!  Features include leisure pool, lazy river, high-energy water slides, competition/lap pool, children’s splash pad, slide tower with tube and body slides, and food court area.  Kokomo Beach, located at 804 W. Head to Kokomo Beach Family Aquatic Center to beat the heat this summer!  With plenty of space to swim, high-energy water slides, lazy river, splash pad for kids and concessions, it is the perfect place for the entire family to cool off and enjoy a relaxing day at the pool.  Located at 804 West Park Avenue, Kokomo Beach is open Monday – Saturday 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sunday 12-7 p.m.  For admission prices and more information, visit their website or call 765-456-7540.

2011 Duck Derby at Kokomo Beach

It is time again for Samaritan Caregiver’s Annual Duck Derby!  Plan to bring the entire family on Thursday, July 28, 2011 to Kokomo Beach Family Aquatic Center from 5-10 p.m. for an evening of fun, games, and food.  

From 5-7 p.m, Duck Derby ticket holders (tickets $5 each) will receive free Papa John’s pizza, Coca Cola products, and enjoy free children’s games.  From 7-10 p.m., Kokomo Beach will be open to Duck Derby ticket holders with a wrist band.  Wrist bands are given out on a first come first serve basis beginning at 5 p.m. with 1,400 maximum capacity in Kokomo Beach.  Non-swimmers may view the races from bleachers outside the fence.

The Papa Duck and Rubber Duck races will be held in the Lazy River from 7-8 p.m.  Papa Duck’s are sponsored by local businesses and compete for a Papa John’s Pizza Party.  The winner of the rubber duck race will receive $500, courtesy of the Kokomo offices of Edward Jones Investments.

 Duck Derby tickets are available for $5 each at the following locations:  First Farmers Bank & Trust (Kokomo, Greentown & Russiaville branches), Lisa’s Scissor Shack, Grindstone Charley’s, Richard’s Restaurant, City of Firsts Community FCU, Itty Bitty Boutique, Tiny Tots & Polka Dots, Solidarity Community FCU, local Woody’s locations, and the Samaritan Caregivers office.

2010 Duck Derby

The Samaritan Caregiver’s 12th Annual Duck Derby will be held at Kokomo Beach Family Aquatic Center on Thursday, July 29 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. (rain date is August 6.)  Fun for the entire family, kids will especially enjoy the duck races and family-friendly activities!

Tickets are $5 each.  A ticket allows entry into Kokomo Beach, kid’s games and inflatables, free pizza and beverages compliments of Papa John’s Pizza and Coca-Cola Bottling of Kokomo, Papa Duck decorating contest judging, free swimming from 7-9 p.m., and of course, the main attraction – duck races!  2,500 little rubber ducks will race down the lazy river at 7:30 p.m.  Prizes (ranging from cash and gift cards to fantastic prize baskets) will be awarded to those with corresponding numbers for the top ten finishing ducks.  Come and cheer them on!
