Celebrate Kokomo’s legacy of automotive heritage during the Haynes-Apperson Festival in Downtown Kokomo on June 30 through July 2, 2011. The festival will be open on Thursday & Friday 5-11 p.m. and Saturday Noon-11 p.m. Admission is free. Enjoy carnival rides, food vendors, arts and crafts, and large sports festival. Don’t forget the fantastic music! The Haynes-Apperson Festival will have a great line-up of concerts this year, including InsideOut at 6 p.m. and Here Come the Mummies at 8 p.m. on Thursday night. Friday night concerts include Jessie Brown at 6 p.m., Paul Stout Country at 7:30 p.m., and LoCash Cowboys at 9 p.m. The Joe Cameron Band will perform at 6:30 p.m. to open for Boyz II Men at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday. VIP tickets are available at Palmer’s Jewelry, Granson Jewelers, and at the information tent at the festival. All concerts are free and located on the Courthouse Square in Downtown Kokomo!
In conjunction with the Haynes-Apperson Festival, celebrate Automotive Heritage Days at the Markland Mall now through July 2, 2011. Kokomo’s first motorized fire engine is on display, a 1915 Ahrens Fox Fire Engine. Admission is free.
Next, head to the Kokomo Municipal Airport on Saturday, July 2 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. for the Kokomo Wings and Wheels Air Show. The event will feature the Checkertail Clan’s T-6 Texan, P-51 Mustang, and many other WWII Warbirds. Also, Greg Aldridge in his Super Chipmunk, Mike Wild in the Super Decathlon, Bob Richards’ amazing Pitts performance, Dick Darlington in his Pitts S2, Al Hoover in his Stearman, and more! The Air Show will feature jet acts and aerobatics, and there will also be a large static display of classic, antique, hot rod cars, and a skydiving demonstration at 10 a.m. Tickets will be available for the pancake breakfast from 8-11 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. For more details, visit www.KokomoWingsandWheels.net.
Finally, head to the Howard County Fairgrounds in Greentown to enjoy a spectacular fireworks display on Monday, July 4th at dusk.
