Kokomo Municipal Stadium to host soccer, college baseball in 2016

In addition to being the home of the Kokomo Jackrabbits Prospect League baseball team, Kokomo Municipal Stadium will be host to many other sporting events and teams this year.

It was recently announced that the newest USL Premier Development League soccer team is the Kokomo Mantis FC, led by coach and team manager Marcelo Santos. They will play all home games at Kokomo Municipal Stadium starting in June 2016. For more information and to see the team’s schedule, visit uslpdl.com.

The Stadium will also host several college baseball games this spring, all of which will feature a team from an Indiana school. Tickets for the college games are available on the Kokomo Jackrabbits website. These games include:

March 12: Manchester University vs. John Carroll
March 13: Manchester University vs. John Carroll
March 18: Purdue vs. Ohio University
March 19: Purdue vs. Ohio University
March 20: Purdue vs. Ohio University
March 22: Kent St. vs. Evansville
May 17: IPFW vs. Purdue

In addition, the American Legion Baseball 2016 State Finals and the Prospect League’s 2016 All Star Game will both be held at Kokomo Municipal Stadium in July.

Wild Indiana Outdoors Show – January 17-18, 2015

Are you an outdoor enthusiast?  You won’t want to miss the Wild Indiana Outdoors Show on January 17-18, 2015 at the Kokomo Event & Conference Center.  Learn more about great opportunities for fishing, boating, camping, hunting, hiking, biking, RV traveling and more in Indiana!

Over 50 exhibitors and vendors will be on hand to share ideas and information for all ages and abilities, in addition to several guest speakers.  Among those participating as speakers at the event are:

  • Jonathon VanDam, Kalamazoo, Mich, and Pete Ponds, Madison, Miss., who both have earned distinction as Bassmaster Elite Series anglers
  • Chris Noffsinger of Traverse City, Mich., captain of Northern Adventures Fishing Guide Services
  • Mark Booth of Indianapolis, who will bring his much-celebrated birds of prey program
  • Doug Sikora of Noblesville, a crappie fishing pro
  • Well-known Hoosier hunters Dan and Don Pickell of Frankfort
  • Gary Hill of Howard County’s Wildcat Guardians, who will talk about paddling and fishing the Wildcat
  • Matt Gasaway, Riverbottom Retrievers
  • Representatives of “Sisters on the Fly,” with more than 3,000 members, the largest outdoor women’s group in the United States

The show will be open 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17 and from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on January 18.  Admission is $5 at the door.  Children ages 10 & younger will be admitted for $1 each.  All proceeds from the event will go to the Ivy Tech Foundation to support scholarships for Ivy Tech Kokomo Region students.  Visit their website for more information.

Kokomo Visitors Bureau Receives NSA Meritorious Award

At the 2nd Annual National Softball Association Northern Indiana Hall of Fame Banquet, held November 10, 2012 in Warsaw, Indiana, the Greater Kokomo Visitors Bureau received the Meritorious Award.  The Greater Kokomo Visitors Bureau has partnered with NSA Indiana North for many years to bring adult softball and quality tournaments to the Kokomo community.

Jim Kimmel, Director of NSA Indiana North presented Kim Morgan of the Greater Kokomo Visitors Bureau with the award during the Hall of Fame Banquet.  He stated, “The Kokomo Visitors Bureau’s partnership with the NSA has been a driving force for additional tournament play in the Kokomo community.”  The NSA hosted 8 tournaments in Kokomo during the 2012 season.  Those tournaments produced more than $250,000 in visitor spending.

Other Kokomo award winners were the Kokomo Parks Department which received the 110% award and Mike Hagy who was inducted into the Hall of Fame under the Coaches Division.
